Importance of Planning

Component: Budgeting, Planning & Goal Setting | Grade Level: Grade 4-6

Learning Targets:

Targets for knowledge, skills, and behaviours below are possible targets. It is not expected that all will be covered by a single Teaching Unit. Teachers can select their learning targets using the Teaching Units provided (to the right), adaptations of these Teaching Units, or Units/Lesson Plans they develop on their own.

KNOW:

  • How a plan can help to achieve goals
  • Benefits of having a plan to follow
  • How and why plans can change
  • Why planning to save money is important

BE ABLE TO:

  • Estimate how much is spent on different things
  • Develop a plan to accomplish a task
  • Adjust a plan if necessary to achieve a task
  • Work with others to develop a plan and complete a task

ACTION/BEHAVIOUR:

  • Know how money is being used
  • Achieve goals or accomplish tasks by using a plan
  • Review and change a plan as needed

Teaching Unit:

Importance of Planning

Students will learn how and why it is important to make plans, and how plans can help to achieve goals – such as saving up for something that is wanted.
